Hence, when it rains heavily, the CBD is usually the first place to get flooded. – Hesaraghatta and Koramangala: These two areas are located in the southern part of the city and are close to the river and lakes. Hence, they’re prone to flooding and water logging during monsoons. – Jayanagar and Banashankari: These are low-lying areas close to lakes and the river. Hence, they usually get flooded during heavy rain.

You can also check out the drainage patterns in your neighborhood online. The website of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has a detailed map of the city, which shows the location and capacity of the drains. This will help you to understand the drainage system in your neighborhood and how your home is likely to be affected during monsoons.

Stay on the second floor — or higher!

If you are looking to buy a home, it is advisable to choose a home on the second floor or higher. Low-lying areas are usually the first to get flooded during monsoons, and it is often difficult to get the water out. Higher floors are less likely to get flooded, and the water drains out easily. Third-floor homes are better than first-floor homes, and second-floor homes are better than third-floor homes.

When you can’t avoid a basement apartment

If you are buying a home in a low-lying area and have no choice but to buy a home on the ground floor or a first-floor apartment, make sure you choose one that has a basement. Even though the basement will most likely get flooded, it is easier to drain out the water from a basement than from the ground floor.
